Cymbidium Orchid 2002

I have new photographs of our orchid. These ones are in better focus than the old ones. I also have a shot of the whole plant.

Cymbidium

Our Cymbidium orchid finally bloomed. Lisa gave it to me as a Valentine's gift two years ago. It grew many new leaves, but didn't bloom. After talking with a friend who has a Cymbidium too and reading about Cymbidiums (Cymbidium Society of America), I finally did a cool treatment by placing it outside in fall and watering with cold river water. The temperatures weren't to freezing, but were only a few degrees above freezing. It now has 3 stalks of 9, 7, and 7 blooms each in full flower. The blooms are about 13cm across. The first ones to open have been open for nearly a month now and show no signs of fading. The plant isn't for the short-on-space. It has about a 1.5m span, although the leaves can mingle with other plants as they are strappy leaves.
