Lake O'Hara 2006 - Notes

Lake O'Hara and Mount Schaffer

Just after Peggy's 90th birthday party, Lisa, Enid, Colin, and I spent two days hiking at Lake O'Hara. Lake O'Hara lived up to its reputation as a gorgeous place to hike and lovely place stay. If you intend on going, book 3 months in advance at 08:00 MST, or try for a cancellation at the last moment, or be very flexible on the dates that you can go.

The first day was cloudy and a bit rainy - Lisa managed to sleep through the worst of the rain. Enid, Colin, and I hiked to MacArthur Lake. Colin stopped at one of the tarns on the way back to do some sketching; Enid found some other hikers who wanted to go to Odurary Plateau; I ambled along taking pictures of flowers.

The second day was sunny and warm. We hiked the All Souls trail that goes up the Wiwaxy Ledges to a col between Mount Huber and Wiwaxy Peaks. It then descends to Lake Oesa. I found a few Crepis nana (alpine hawk's-beards) blooming just below the crest of the col. I included a picture of one of them despite the focus being a bit wonky - it's so improbably small in so inhospitable a place.

The Animals and Plants sections have a few pictures and details not found in the main sequence. I've organized the plants section by family and then genera.
