Two hikes: Plain of the Six Glaciers and Sunshine Meadows, both in Banff National Park. Plain of the Six Glaciers with Margot (Lisa's niece), Enid, and Lisa. We were treated to chocolate cake and tea the tea house by Margot. A nice break given the weather. We then continued to the lookout. The trail to the lookout is above one of the glaciers. The glacier is so covered in rock debris that it is only given away by the crevasses in it. Somehow, I missed taking any pictures of the tea house - too busy stuffing my face with chocolate cake. Sunshine Meadows with many of our friends. We picked this hike, not only for its outstanding wild flowers, but also to accommodate many of us whose knees/legs/??? aren't working as well as they once did. The hermit thrushes and fox sparrows were singing. I got the occasional glimpse of them. Brook trout (a stocked eastern species) in the stream below Rock Isle Lake. They have beautiful red/black/white fins, which are easily visible through binoculars. © 2011. All images are copyrighted by Alan Covington.
