Chester Lake Larch Hike 2007 October - Introduction

Subalpine Larch
Subalpine Larch

Nancy stopped by Calgary on her way back from a Physicians for Global Survival meeting. It was her reward for travelling across the country and then being inside for 3 days - real torture for Nancy.

The subalpine larches turned colour late this year, so we were able to take her on a larch hike. We picked Chester Lake because the weather in Kananaskis was supposed to be better than in Banff, also, the snow was supposed to be less deep.

We extended the Chester Lake hike by going up to the Elephant Rocks and then onto Three Lake Valley. We just poked our noses into the valley because Megan needed to get home early enough to practice. Next time, we have to go up the valley a bit.

Megan and I were at Chester Lake just 1 month before with Eric and Louise. It's a different look with golden larch and snow on the ground.

Besides a caption, each picture has further description of itself and the hike. The pictures are in the order I took them.

None of the pictures are large enough to make good 4x6 prints. If you want to print any of these, please send me the reference numbers (reference numbers at lower right of pictures or lower middle of toenails) of the pictures and I can send you (or put on the web) big enough ones for printing.
